Art Statement

My work: is a reaction that does not escape the influences, conscious and unconscious, of the lived experiences, nor the knowledge and skills obtained through disciplines such as history, visual arts, and education; "The wealth of an artist is the fusion of influences that have shaped his life and work," Fernando Botero.

My objective is not only the documentation and analysis of cultural values but the expression of the values that are personally important to me. This give me enough freedom to work with political, social, economic, cultural, and academic topics.

The pictorial documentation is based on the theoretical frameworks of the artistic movement known as Costumbrism, but taking into account the historiographical methods of the currents of Cultural History, the use of the image as a historical document, and other philosophical assertions made by German philosophers and historians such as Peter Burke and Erwin Panofsky.

To develop my ideas, I use different processes. I use the collection of pictorial information through the preparation of sketches, the taking of photos, and the exercise of memory. I do the research and compilation of theoretical material through interviews with people and experts related to the chosen topic, through the analysis of books and images exhibited in museums or public places, archives, etc. These processes help me to know more about the subject, as well as to solve technical problems.

Then I move into the experiment with different media, such as drawing, graphic arts, and painting, among others, until finding the one that works best to achieve the purpose of the artwork.
